FYI-Net
Network Resource Kit
To the right is the main menu to one of
FYI-Net's first commercial ventures, the Network Resource Kit. I was
Project Lead, part of the interface design team, and the primary programmer
on this project.
The program's objective was to teach the user about networking in an
immersive and engaging environment while providing convenient web links
to hardware and service vendors. This Authorware program included a
high-resolution movie player supporting the latest Quicktime codecs
and an Active X web
browser. (This was actually very impressive at the time that it was
done.) The Web Browser is shown to the lower right, displaying FYI-Net's
homepage
at that time.
Upon entering any lesson section
the user was greeted by a visually stunning movie which introduced the
basic lesson concepts, and provided
with an
exploratory environment where they could click on different components
of a scene (which glowed and were identified at the bottom of the
screen when hovered over) in order to get more detailed information.
