Welcome to Guy's UI Design Pages

Current Job Status

I'm working a 3-day-per-week gig for an undefined period of time, and I expect it to be a fairly long term arrangement. I am currently available for part-time only (no more than 2 days per week).

What I Do: User Experience (UX)

I perfer the title User Experience Lead, but like most folks in my line of work I wear many hats.

UX Lead encompasses identification and personification of target audience, consultation on or ownership of user and business requirements documents, development of content strategy and information architecture, user interface design, and working with the visual design and implementation team to iron out issues all the way through project completion. In all of the above I am experienced in both overseeing and directing a team of UX and visual design professionals to produce deliverables as well as producing deliverables myself.

I'm also a search engine optimization (SEO) expert and act in that role as part of busienss requirements consultation and development. A solid SEO (and SEM) plan is a critical component in the success of any website today and must be an integral part of project discovery and definition phases.

About Me

The driving forces in my life are quality, satisfaction, and caring about people. My strongest skills revolve around visual and audial communication, organization, and planning. I love to facilitate project teams from brainstorming and conceptualization all the way through the entire process of reaching a viable solution. I have a proven background in understanding how people think, analyzing their needs, and meeting them. I bring all these talents to bear on any project I'm involved with, and that's what I enjoy doing.

About the Quote

When I read Harlan Ellison's words (to the right) for the first time, his words resonated with some long-held feelings of my own. His insight helped me to grapple with these issues and begin to address them. As a result, I prefer to work with companies that honor excellence in everything they do.

Perfection. Excellence. What a passionate lover. But once having tasted the lips of excellence, once having given oneself to its perfection, how dreary and burdensome and filled with anomie are the remainder of one's waking hours trapped in the shackled lock-step of the merely ordinary, the barely acceptable, the just okay and not a stroke better.

Sadly, most lives are fashioned on that pattern. Settling for what is possible; buying into the cliché because the towering dream is out of stock; learning how to avoid taking the risk of the dizzying leap.

– Harlan Ellison, introduction to Sandman Volume IV, Season of Mists
